Persephone was kidnapped by Hades and was tricked to become the queen of the Underworld.  The chains signify her entanglement between the two worlds, as her mother, Demeter, and husband, Hades, had to come to an agreement.  Persephone was made to spend 6 months in the underworld, and 6 months on Olympus with her mom.  The blue crystal is Persephone thethered and stuck between the two worlds.
